Spawn, Hellspawn, Lieutenant Colonel Albert Francis Simmons, The Chosen One, Jesse Smith
- Youth
As a child, Al Simmons father was a travelling salesman who was often away from home on business. While he was away, Al, his two brothers and their mother were often visited by a mysterious man named Malefick. Their mother claimed Malefick was an old friend, and because they were just young boys, the Simmons brothers did not think much of mothers secret.
In fact, the boys looked on Malefick with a curious eye. He always dressed in a white suit and was always ready to tempt the boys with something naughty. He started by showing them how to burn ants with a magnifying glass, and then progressed into more and more violent acts. Malefick seemed to be testing the boys in a way, especially Als younger brother Richie.
As the boys got older, their feelings about Malefick began to change as they better understood his relationship to their parents. Once, when Als older brother Marc decided to tell their father about Malefick, Al forcefully forbade him. Al had developed a taste for the things Malefick offered them and did not want things to be changed.
One summer, while home from college, Malefick started Richie down a path of heavy drugs, prostitutes and violence. Richie soon found himself over his head and was forced to turn to his brothers for help. At Maleficks insistence, Richie went on a drug deal and met with a man named Weasel. There, Richie was drugged and molested, but when he came to, Richie fought back. He stabbed Weasel nearly to death and then quickly called his br

History
Early life
Al was born in Detroit, Michigan as the second of three brothers (Marc, Al and Richard) to Esther and Bernard Simmons. Simmons was a very gifted officer of the United States Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He later joined the United States Secret Service, which led to his transfer to the Central Intelligence Agency. In the CIA, Simmons was recruited by Director Jason Wynn into a special top-secret covert ops division known as the U.S. Security Group, an elite task force with jurisdiction in all domestic and foreign situations.
Director Wynn and Simmons began to butt heads more often and Simmons planned to resign.
Simmons was murdered during a mission in Botswana for the USSG's Operation Knightstrike by fellow mercenary Bruce Stinson, aka Chapel, (later retcon to be fellow mercenary Jessica Priest) at the order of Director Wynn. Simmons was sent to Hell because of his life as an assassin. After arranging a deal with the being known as Malebolgia, Simmons agrees to become a Hellspawn in exchange for being allowed to see his wife Wanda Blake one last time.
Returning to Earth
Malebolgia returns Al Simmons, now a Hellspawn, to the world, but with little memory, a badly disfigured body, limited yet seemingly boundless magical powers, and a monitor, the Clown, AKA Violator. Simmons slowly realizes that five years have passed. When he decides to visit his former wife, Wanda Blake for his "one final visit", he discovers that his Wanda has since married his best friend, Terry Fitzgerald, and the two have a daughter, Cyan. Al shapeshifts his body, but chooses to take the form of Terry and makes love to her. She becomes pregnant which sets in motion a prophecy of the child that will decide the

Simmons is a mercenary who died and went to Hell for his crimes against humanity. Following a deal with Malebolgia, Simmons is given new life as a hellspawn and the chance to see his wife Wanda once again. The deal is revealed to be a trick, as Simmons is brought back to life five years after his death, unrecognizable to his wife and missing many of his memories. With little other choice, Simmons adopts his new hell inspired identity as Spawn in an effort to atone for his past sins and use his newfound powers for good.
The series has spun off several other comic books, including Angela, Curse of the Spawn, Sam & Twitch, and the Japanese mangaShadows of Spawn. Spawn was adapted into a 1997 feature film and portrayed by Michael Jai White, an HBOanimated series lasting from 1997 until 1999, a series of action figures from McFarlane Toys, and an upcoming reboot film starring Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner. The character appears in annual compilations, mini-series specials written by guest authors and artists, and numerous crossover storylines in other comic books, including Savage Dragon, Invincible, and three DC Comics crossovers with Batman.

Character Bio - Al Simmons was a top assassin for the CIA until he was betrayed by his own men. This betrayal resulted in Simmons' death. As a result of his work as an assassin he was guilty of murder and his soul was sent to Hell. While in Hell, Simmons agreed to a deal with the demon Malebolgia that allowed Simmons to see his wife again. However, every deal comes at a cost and Simmons agreed to become a Hellspawn, an officer of Hell's army and ruler of the eighth realm of Hell. This deal also came with a catch, Simmons was sent back to earth with little to no memory of his past along with a hideously scarred body and face. Spawn was born. In this new form he was given a vast array of supernatural powers and a protective symbiotic armor known as Leetha of the 7th House of K (K7-Leetha). Spawn's core powers are derived from a will-controlled magical substance from Hell known as necroplasm. This dense substance grants Spawn superhuman strength, weight, stamina, and healing. Despite his high density, his body is quite agile and he is able to fly. The necroplasm has also bestowed upon him a variety of necro-magic abilities including teleportation and necro-energy blasts. In fact, Spawn may unleash the fury of Hell if he so chooses. However, this magic is limited by a magical meter which starts at 9,999. With every usage of his limited supply of necroplasm he drains an amount of necroplasm equal to the amount used. He has since learned to feed off the evil around him in order to replenish his supply of necroplasm. As Spawn innately sought out his past, Malebolgia's mission for Spawn was made clear. Spawn was to lead the armies of hell in a war to destroy heaven and make Malebolgia king of all. Spawn refused and resisted in an effort to get back the woman he
