Granville, Normandy, Aside from being a gifted Creature Effects Mechanic and Sculptor, Peter also teaches at The Art Institute. Peter Clarke is simply extraordinary! He solves mechanical problems with imagination and an understanding of both conceptual application and aesthetic impact. Daniel Joseph Martinez L.A. based, nationally known fine artist, 2009 Broad Fellow and professor of art at UC Irvine. Peter Weir Clarke is a maker of cool things. He is a congenital tinkerer and boot-strap engineer and is the builder and destroyer of his own home. He is an avid shaper and rider of his own experimental surfboards. He has made it his life's goal to be able to build just about anything and his creations are often accompanied by burns, shocks, flames, black smoke, bad smells, scabs, scars, bloody knuckles, fearful screams, enthusiastic shouts, maniacal laughter and fits of frustrated profanity. His work has been featured in blockbusters, b-movies, art galleries, museums and international expositions. He works as an animatronics and mechanical effects designer/fabricator and teaches drawing and sculpture at the Art Institute of California -- Hollywood. Stan Mott Cartoonist, round the World go-kartist, car builder, illustrator, bad taste satirist and eccentric, Stan Mott describes his life as: "Well, I escaped Flint, Michigan at an early age, owned 50-percent interest in a Cragar flathead A-bone roadster at 12, ran at El Mirage at 15, had first automotive cartoons published in Rosetta Timing Association's program in 1948. Went to Art Center College, developed a sense of humor working in World's Greatest Rolling Clown Show (GM Styling Section). Then worked as fry cook, mercenary, airline pilot, art director of Road and Track magazine, farmer, Wall Street broker, poet. Drove a go kart around the world, became an Alpine guide, did freelance art work and smuggled. Helped found Automobili Cyclops SpA and hold position of propaganda minister in perpetuity. Now working philanthropically to solve moral situations in Southern Mediterranean waters for the U.N." Not surprisingly Mott refuses to talk about his relationship with the CIA, arctic exploration or his stint as a human cannon ball. He did indeed drive a go-kart around the world; I have included some images from that trip as well as a whole bunch of his cartoons that give an idea of his extraordinary creativity. For example Mott proposed a personal aircraft carrier for an impossibly wealthy Oil Sheik. The Sheik was always seasick, so the carrier rolls on the dry ground, while the seaplanes land on its deck filled with water. Some sharks were provided to keep the waters free of Russian scuba diving spies. The whole point of Mott’s humor is that it is very complex, highly political and critical of most things excessive. Therefore when he designed and built his own motorcar it was in no way excessive! Mott invented the Cyclops Car Company, made numerous sketches of the little car on the production line, on the Monte Carlo Rally and even at le Mans. In fact the Cyclops was wonderfully simple, had an enormous amount of charm and ac American cartoonist Stan Fine (May 24, 1922 - May 21, 2009), was an American gag cartoonist. He contributed to major magazines, signed his work with his full name but sometimes reversed his last name to submit cartoons under the signature Enif. Born in Pittsburgh, Fine studied at the Philadelphia School of Industrial Art and then launched his cartoon career. His work appeared for decades in a wide variety of publications, including The American Magazine, Cartoon Spice, Collier's, Good Housekeeping, Look, National Enquirer, National Lampoon, The Saturday Evening Post and Woman's World. For a year in the mid-1960s, he entered into newspaper syndication with Art Linkletter's Kids, a daily gag panel featuring a cast of child characters—Klunkhead, Powder Puff, Specs Webster and Terry the Terror. Distributed by King Features Syndicate, the series began November 4, 1963 and continued until October 1964. He also worked on the syndicated Hazel, as recalled by Ted Key's son, Peter Key: Before moving to Florida, Fine's studio was at 125 Montgomery Avenue in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, where he lived with his wife, the former Irene Fox. Between sessions at the drawing board, Fine found time for his hobbies, woodworking, golf and reinventing himself as a cartoonist. Fine used the services of several gagwriters, including Terry
