    Born in 1963, Maurizio was an amateur musician throughout his childhood and adolescence; he played drumkit, flute, quickly learned about the evolutionary advantages of learning how to sing and play a tune on guitar, and seconded his congenital obsession for percussion music by building his own instruments, collecting resonating object of any sort, and hitting pretty much anything that was catching his attention, while carrying his studies in architecture and interior design in his hometown Trieste, Italy.

    He turned full attention to music at 21, when he began studying conga drums with local teachers. By 1986 he had abandoned any other form of livelihood, and officially started his full-time career as a musician, playing for theatre, and local jazz, salsa and rock bands.
    Between 1989 and 1991 he went through an intensive period of study of Congas and Afro Cuban Percussion, frequently visiting La Havana, Cuba, and learning from Tomàs “El Panga” Ramos, Changuito and Los Chinos, amongst others.

     

    He moved to London in 1991, and quickly established himself as a session musician.
    Quite an active presence in the British Funk scene throughout the nineties, he was the percussionist of Jamiroquai during their “Emergency” and “Space Cowboy” period, and of the James Taylor Quartet from 1994 to 1998; plus a number of less notorious acts with some of the most important artists involved in that scene, such as Dennis Rollins, Mike Smith's The Whole Thing, Jessica Lauren and many others.
    During the same decade, in different stages, he was involved in most of the Salsa and Cuban related project to originate from London. His collaborations in that field include, amongst others, Jesus Alemani, Snowboy, Alex Wilson, Tumbaito, Herman Oliveira.

    With drummer Davide Giovannini he co-founded the duo Afroshock, whose activity spanned from 1989 to 2000. Afroshock released only one album, in 1998: “Accommodating Gods&rdqu

    "Composer-performer Laura Jurd's distinct voice as an improvising trumpet player is at the heart of everything she creates. Her music celebrates and innovates the rich traditions of jazz and folk music, whilst often reflecting her love of The Beatles and Stravinsky to name two notable influences. Her compositions dig into something primal, earthy and human, whilst taking twists and turns that both invite surprise and evoke the inevitable.

    As a composer she has collaborated with the London Sinfonietta, the Festival of New Trumpet Music, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and the Ligeti Quartet to name a few. She regularly performs throughout the UK, Europe and beyond with her Mercury-nominated band Dinosaur, having played the likes of North Sea, Montréal and Molde International Jazz festivals to name a few. She can also be heard playing alongside London jazz band Kansas Smitty's and leading a number of exciting projects in UK jazz and improvised music. Recent collaborators include drummer Seb Rochford, pianist Huw Warren and accordionist / sound-artist Martin Green."

    "Chris gained his first professional experience aged 17 with Dudu Pukwana, at the suggestion of Harry Beckett. He subsequently became a founder member,composer and soloist with Loose Tubes, contributing many pieces to the repertoire of the band from 1984-1990. He was also very active at this time as a member of legendary world music trailblazers 3 Mustaphas 3, as well as enjoying a varied diet of gigs with Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath, Congolese soukous band Taxi Pata Pata and Ashley Slater's Microgroove.
