Amruta Subhash

Indian actress

Amruta Subhash is an Indian actress who works in Marathi and Hindi films, television, and theatre. She is a graduate of the National School of Drama, New Delhi. She has received several awards, including a National Film Award, two Filmfare Awards, and a Filmfare OTT Award.

Career

Subhash made her debut with the National Award-winning film and India's Oscar entry for the year 2004, Shwaas.

She won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2013, for her role in the Marathi film Astu and has starred in numerous critically acclaimed films that have won various awards around the world, such as the Crystal Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Fedeora Award at the Venice Film Festival.

Subhash is also a classically trained singer who has lent her voice to various Marathi films.

As a playback singer, she has won accolades such as the Maharashtra Government State Award for the film Nital. She has appeared in the Netflix Original series Selection Day (2018–19) and opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Sacred Games (2019).

Subhash was a student at S P College, Pune. She started her acting career in theatre. She graduated from the National School of Drama, New Delhi, where she studied under Satyadev Dubey. While there, she appeared in various plays, including Urvashiam (1997), Bela Meri Jaan (1998), House of Bernada, Alba (1998), and Mrug Trushna (1999). Returning to Maharashtra, she appeared in various Marathi plays, including Tee Fulrani. This role, previously portrayed by Bhakti Barve, brought her into the spotlight.     Sandesh Kulkarni is a Marathi and Hindi film filmmaker and actor known for his contribution in both the industries. He is widely credited for his films like Gulmohar in 2009, Coffee Ani Barach Kahi in 2015 and Rocky Handsome, the 2016 action thriller movie. He is said to have been enthused by his elder brother Sandeep Kulkarni since he was at the driver’s seat during Ganapati Festivals as he wrote and directed the plays concerned.

    He was also taken aback by two plays from his childhood Mahanirwan and Tughlaq, which further inspired him. He passed his college in 1991 and has devoted himself to the cinema industry since then. He wrote a play Pahila Vahila, which was his first full-length play.     Sandeep Kulkarni is an Indian actor who works in Hindi and Marathi films.

    Early life and background

    Kulkarni was born in Pune, Maharashtra to Shrikant and Lata Kulkarni. He was raised in a middle-class Marathi Deshastha Brahmin family. He attended the J. J. School of Arts in Mumbai.

    Career

    After working in theatre for four years in English, Marathi and Hindi productions, he started to work in television. He played varied roles including a young Muslim lawyer in the TV Serial 9 Malabar Hill, which aired on Zee TV, a press reporter in Farz, which aired on DD Metro, an underworld don in the Doordarshan channel Swabhimaan and a counselor in Nyay. He also played the role of a cop who solves the mystery behind an old couple refusing to accept the dead body of their son in the one-hour suspense thriller First Kill directed by Sriram Raghavan. He also played a small role in CID.

    His first film role was in the 1994 film Mammo, directed by Shyam Benegal, set against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan partition (1947). He played the role of an immigration officer who tries to help the protagonist Mammo. In 1999, he acted in the film Shool.

    He played the role of a gangster, Shankar in the 1996 film Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin, directed by Sudhir Mishra. In 1998, he played a naxalite turned activist in the film Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, directed by Govind Nihalani. In 2004, he acted in the critically acclaimed Shwaas, which earned him recognition.
