Shobha Surendran is a politician from Kerala, India, who is affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Shobha Surendran is the first woman from the Kerala BJP to be elected to a national office. She has served as the BJP Mahila Morcha’s state president. Family

Career of Shobha Surendran

Shobha Surendran was the Mahila Morcha’s state president. She was the state general secretary of the party and a member of the party’s core committee. She was then promoted to vice-president from state general secretary.

In 2016, she came in second place with 40,087 votes in a close race. Shobha Surendran was running for legislative assembly and general elections on a BJP ticket at the time, as the party’s state general secretary.

Her electoral results have improved the party’s vote share over time. Shobha Surendran was hesitant to accept the position of state vice-president after being selected, causing a rift within the party. Among an interview, she stated that she would welcome the Muslim League into the NDA, which caused some consternation in the BJP. K. Surendran, the state head of the BJP, denied her claim.

    Indian scholar, writer, philosopher and politician

    Dr. K. S. Radhakrishnan is an Indian scholar, writer, philosopher, and politician. He is currently the state vice-president of the Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP) in Kerala. In March 2024, he was announced as the BJP candidate from the Ernakulam Constituency for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.

    Radhakrishnan formerly served as the Chairman of the Kerala Public Service Commission. Prior to that, he was the Vice Chancellor of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady from 2004 to 2008.

    Education and career

    Born in Ernakulam, he was educated at the Maharaja's College, Ernakulam, receiving his B.A. and M.A. in philosophy. He later obtained a Ph.D. in Advaita Vedanta from Calicut University in 1994.

    Radhakrishnan specializes in Advaita System, Gandhian Studies and Philosophy of Science. He was a member of the governing body of Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi from 2006 to 2009.

    That's why Sandeep G Varier, a BJP leader for the last two decades joining the Congress, is making headlines in Kerala.

    "Just think what would have become of this country in the last 10 years if there was no Congress, if there was no Opposition... I would say the Congress was the safety valve for Indian democracy in the last ten years!," 38-year-old Sandeep Varier tells Rediff.com's Shobha Warrier (no relation).

     

    Why did you join the BJP? What attracted you about the party?

    In the post-liberalisation period, the country was facing so many issues, and there was a strong sentiment in India that the BJP would bring about a change and take India forward.

    The trio of Vajpayee, Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi were quite popular among the young of India at that time.

    I too believed that the BJP could bring about a change in India.

    That was what attracted me to the BJP.

    After leaving the party, you said you didn't want to be a part of the politics of hatred and divisive politics practised by the BJP.
    But you used the same language when you were with the party.
    When did you start feeling that what the party practised was not right?

    When I was the genuine spokesperson of the BJP, I had to follow the narrative built by the party.

    But every time, I started speaking from my heart, the BJP started censoring me.
