A new memoir suggests Michael Jackson wanted to be James Bond

Just as rumour reaches fever pitch over Idris Elba&#;s potential casting as the first black James Bond, Ovitz has revealed that perhaps the history of the Bond film could have been altered forever had he taken Jackson seriously.

As reported by Metro UK, Ovitz&#;s new memoirs Who is Michael Ovitz? mentions a meeting with Jackson and his business partner Ron Meyer, where Jackson passionately raised the idea of being the &#;star in an action movie&#;, specifically Though this doesn&#;t seem outrageously absurd, Ovitz then bizarrely details Jackson dropping his hat in guacamole immediately afterward.

&#;Then the blob fell off, and Ron totally lost it. I cracked up, too, and Michael stalked out. I found him and explained for 15 minutes that we hadn’t been laughing at him…&#; Ovitz writes.

    &#;Finally, Michael’s face cleared. &#;OK, Ovitz. OK,&#; he said. &#;But I want to play James Bond.&#; I am proud to report I didn’t laugh, this time.&#;

Ovitz brought Jackson down from the idea by telling him he was &#;too thinly built&#;too sensitive&#; and claiming he wouldn&#;t be &#;credible as a block of stone&#;. Here at Mixdown, we think Ovitz made a poor decision – a softly spoken, smooth walkin&#; and fedora adorned James Bond would have been a spectacular sight.

Michael Jackson really thought he could be James Bond

There has been much fanfare about Idris Elba playing the first black James Bond, but it has emerged that Michael Jackson was gunning for that title decades ago.

According to famed celebrity agent Michael Ovitz, the late King of Pop pleaded with Hollywood bosses to let him play back in the s.

In his tell-all memoir, Who Is Michael Ovitz lifts the lid on his career and explains that the Thriller hitamaker revealed his desire to be ‘the star of an action movie’ during a meeting at his home.

The industry heavyweight said he and business partner Ron Meyer struggled to keep a straight face after Michael’s announcement and the situation was made even more comical when the music legend’s hat fell in a dish of guacamole.

He recalls that Michael, who died in on 25 June from a cardiac arrest after receiving a lethal dose of the anesthetic propofol, continued his pitch despite a blob of guacamole sliding down his hat.

‘Then the blob fell off, and Ron totally lost it. I cracked up, too, and Michael stalked out. I found him and explained for 15 minutes that we hadn’t been laughing at him,’ Ovitz writes.

‘Finally, Michael’s face cleared. “OK, Ovitz. OK,” he said. “But I want to play James Bond.” I am proud to report I didn’t laugh, this time.’

Ovitz was then tasked with breaking it to the chart-topping pop star that he wasn’t suited to the role, which has been played by seven actors including Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig.

He managed to fob him off by pointing out that he was ‘thinly built, you’re too sensitive, you won’t be credible as a brutal block of stone.’

Although Michael lost out on the coveted role, he is likely to have welcomed reports that Idris was favourite to take over after Daniel Craig steps down.

Earlier this year, the year-old star responded to rampant rumours, insisting that he would only like to me be fired for his talent and not to meet a quota.

After the successful musician biopics such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Elvis, Rocketman, and Straight Outta Compton, now the King of Pop is also getting a biography of his own.

Michael Jacksonwill be back on screens again in with Michael, a biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua. The film will be starring the late pop superstar’s nephew Jaafar Jacksonin the lead, which will also be his first major role.

The biopic challenges assumptions and presents evidence of Mj’s innocence, with industry insiders predicting a box office haul of nearly $1 billion for the film.

Nkenna Akunna meets with Aml Ameen and Shantol Jackson to talk about their roles in Idris Elba’s directorial debut, ‘Yardie’.

Idris Elba made his directorial debut earlier this year with the release of Yardie, an adaptation of Victor Headley’s debut crime novel. The film follows Dennis “D”, a trauma-ridden character who witnesses his brother’s death in 70s Kingston. Having never fully recovered, he embarks upon a life of violence that leads him to 80s Hackney, retributive impulses guiding much of his journey. Elba, who grew up in London, is no stranger to the crime/ drama genre after finding international stardom following his role as Stringer Bell in The Wire. It is perhaps fitting that his first feature film finds him exploring the world of organised crime in his hometown London, centring characters who made up the black diaspora he grew up in.

I spoke with the film’s stars, Aml Ameen who plays D, and Shantol Jackson who plays D’s girlfriend Yvonne, about their experience of telling this story and working with Elba. To talk about how they first come across the script?

“I was on a flight,” Ameen tells me, “and Idris happened to be on that same flight, sitting next to me.” Elba started to tell Ameen about Yardie, and: “As we’re talking about this gangsta film, sitting a couple seats ahead of us was Al Pacino,” who, in case you were unaware, played Michael Corleone in crime classic The Godfather trilogy.

    “It was serendipity.”

Jackson, who lives in Jamaica, tells me that she first came across the script when Elba and Ameen visited the country to do a casting call.

“The fact that they came to scout for actors in Jamaica says a lot about Idris, too.”

“He is such a talented guy,” Ameen adds, “ and he was so hands on. He was really about this story.”

Whilst both Ameen and Jackson are of Jamaican descent, Ameen was born and raised in London, making his character’s journey from Kingston to the UK’s capital feel particularly resonant. Moving to Jamaica
